Waterproof exercise sheets
Waterproof exercise sheets are perfect for the winter time. If your horse is clipped, has a short coat or tends to be stiff and tense due to the cold, an exercise sheet can be the perfect help for a more supple, relaxed and warm horse.
Waterproof exercise sheets are typically lined with fleece to provide some extra warmth and comfort. This also helps wick moisture, so even if your horse has gotten sweaty during your training or trail ride, you don’t need to worry about the sweat and your horse cooling down too much.
The outside of a waterproof exercise sheet is – as the wording already suggests – waterproof. That means that it’s perfect for bad weather, no matter if it’s just cold, foggy, raining or even snowing. Your horse will have it nice and cosy, the kidneys stay protected, and you have peace of mind.
Types of waterproof exercise sheets
At Epplejeck, we have a few different models and styles of exercise sheets. Most exercise sheets we stock are longer and attach at the front of the saddle. The saddle area itself stays free with a cutout. These longer models cover the entire back of the horse. Horseware for example tends to use this style. Since the winter time also means that it’ll be very dark out, almost all sheets have some reflective details to keep you visible and safe. If you are looking for something is very high visibility, WeatherBeeta has multiple exercise sheets in neon colours with highly reflective properties. Epplejeck and Horsegear also offer similar sheets.
If you’d like something to only protect the kidney area of the horse, instead of covering the entire back, a quarter sheet might be good for you. Quarter sheets are not as long as exercise sheets and only cover the hind end. They can be attached to the back of the saddle or are placed underneath the saddle to securely stay in place. The Bucas therapy sheets are made in this style.
Bucas also offers a full-coverage exercise sheet. This special model covers the entire horse, as well as your saddle. It comes with a neck piece for full protection. The material is breathable and lightweight, as to not hinder you and your horse. If you live in a particularly rainy area, this is definitely a must-have! It’s also a fantastic tip for keeping your horse and tack clean, neat and tidy when you’re waiting for your turn at a competition.
