Electrolytes: Compensate the loss of important minerals on hot days!

In many parts of the world, summer is in full swing and bringing some intense heat and sweatiness. Horses also struggle with the increasing temperatures. In order to regulate their body temperature, they get rid of the warmth through sweating. But sweating makes the horse not only lose moisture, but also important minerals such as natrium, potassium, calcium and magnesium – also called electrolytes.

Electrolytes are important for a great amount of bodily functions. A big loss of electrolytes, such as through lots of sweat, can lead to thirst suppression and thus a higher chance of dehydration. If your horse is dehydrated, there’s no moisture left and the body can’t get rid of warmth by sweating, leading to overheating. Besides sweating, the horse also uses glycogen during training. Glycogen are the carbohydrates stored in the muscles, which gives the horses energy. Those are being used up during training, and go completely empty in strenuous situations.

Because of this lack of glycogen, the horse loses quick access to energy, which is exactly what the body would need in that moment. This loss of moisture, electrolytes and glycogen, plus the potential for overheating, can ultimately lead to live-threatening exhaustion!

That’s why it’s important to restore the lost electrolytes in exhausting and sweaty times. NAF Electro Lytes offers fantastic replenishment. It tops up the needed minerals right away and supports the moisture levels in the body. This liquid electrolyte replenishment includes all four essential plasma salts – natrium, potassium, calcium and magnesium.

You only need to give NAF Electro Lytes for heavy sweating, strenuous activity and/or warm weather. Below is an overview of the recommended amounts.

Horses:
At high performance levels* (1-3 days) 90 ml
On competition days (1-3 days) 60 ml
Low (maintenance) dose 30 ml

Ponies:
On competition days (1-3 days) 30 - 60 ml
Low (maintenance) dose 15 – 30 ml

NAF Electro Lytes is liquid and easy to dose, which makes it easier to mix with food and water than powder. Ensure that clean, fresh water is always available to the horse to help the absorption of electrolytes.

Give your horse the needed support and help with recovery after exhaustion and give NAF Electro Lytes!
