Finding a jacket for horse riding

It can be a bit of a struggle to find a jacket that is suitable and comfortable enough for horse riding. Of course, you don't really want to wear your regular jacket to the stable. Even if it's super comfortable, once you wear it at the stable, it'll probably get dirty quickly and immediately smell of horses. What to consider?

There are a few things to consider when you buy a riding jacket, although they mostly come down to personal preference.
For example, there’s the material and its properties. If you live in an area that’s prone to blustery weather conditions, especially in the colder months, it might be nice to have a jacket that is water-repellent or waterproof. Most jackets come with a two-way zipper, which means the zipper can be opened from the top and the bottom. This makes the jacket even more convenient, as it gives you the option to open the zip from the bottom instead of having the jacket bulge up around your stomach when you're sitting in the saddle.
A very important point to consider for long winter jackets or raincoats is how you’ll wear them on the horse. Again, most of these jackets will always have a 2-way zipper, or buttons instead of a zipper, around the legs. But they also need vents at the back to make the jacket fall nicely around the saddle and the horse's body. This is usually done with one or two zipper vents in the middle or to the sides of the back. Sometimes, there may just be buttons. This way, you can wear your long jacket without any trouble when you're riding, and keep your legs warm and your saddle dry.
