What is an exercise sheet?

Exercise sheets are a type of rug that you can use while riding. Most exercise sheets have a cutout for the saddle and cover the entire back, while some other – also called quarter sheets – are attached to the back of the saddle and only cover the croup and kidneys. For the longer exercise sheets, there’s lots of different cut available – some cover the chest as well, some only attach right in front of the saddle. When should I use an exercise sheet?

During winter time, an exercise sheet has several functions, depending on what type of sheet you opt for. Exercise sheets, especially waterproof ones, can be very useful if you ride outside in cold, windy and rainy weather. Especially if your horse is clipped, has a very thin and short coat, or easily gets stiff at the back and croup, an exercise sheet can be very benefitial.

Many exercise sheets are lined with fleece or fully made of fleece. This keeps your horse warm and cosy during warm-up and cool-down, helping the horse’s muscles become and stay supple and warm. You can either leave the sheet on for the entire duration of the ride, or take it off after you’ve finished warming up and put it back on when you’re entering the cool-down phase.

Reflective exercise sheets

Riding in the dark can be dangerous, but no more thanks to our reflective exercise sheets. Exercise fly sheets

During summer time, if your horse is highly sensitive to flies or struggles with sweet itch, you can use an exercise fly sheet for trail rides or riding in the outside arena. Fly exercise sheets are similar to regular fly sheets your horse wears in the field, except that they have a cutout for the saddle. To protect the horse as well as possible, these types of exercise sheets also come with a neck piece, which is often removable. Enjoy a relaxed trail ride without pesky insects bothering your horse!
