Stable rugs with a light filling for your horse
Stable rugs keep your horse cosy and warm in the box. Stable rugs come in many different variations, for example with or without neck. At Epplejeck, we stock many different brands, such as Bucas, Horseware, Kentucky and our own house brand Epplejeck.
Does my horse need a stable blanket?
Whether your horse is in need of a stable blanket depends on a few different factors. Rugging a horse is a very individual decision and is different for every horse or circumstance. If your horse has a thick coat, isn’t clipped and isn’t showing any signs of discomfort due to the cold or draft, like shivering, fluffing up the coat, being stiff and tense, your horse most likely doesn’t need a rug inside the stable at all. If your horse could use a little bit of extra comfort, for example because your stable is quite drafty, you can choose a light stable rug. A light filling means that the stable rug is either entirely unfilled or only with 50 grams.
What is the use of a stable rug in winter?
A lightweight stable rug keeps your horse comfortable while in the stable. Stable rugs are breathable and provide a bit of extra warmth. Some stable rugs also function as cooler rugs or show rugs. Typically, stable rugs are used for horses that are clipped, though lightweight stable rugs can also be suitable for horses with short or full coats. For fully clipped horses, we advise picking a medium or heavy stable rug instead.
Please note that this type of rug is not suitable for outside of the stable! When your horse goes outside in the field or paddock, you will need to change to a turnout rug. Turnout rugs are waterproof, which stable rugs are not. You should avoid getting your stable rug wet, as it will take long to dry and will make your horse uncomfortable. It’s best to switch between stable rugs within the stable and turnout rugs when the horse is outside. A stable rug is more breathable, which offers more comfort to the horse while inside.
