What is the point of an under rug or liner?

A liner, under rug or under blanket is an extra rug for your horse that can be used under another rug. Many turnout or stable rugs have special attachment points to secure an under rug to it. Liners are available in several different fillings and weights, to make sure you can find the perfect one for your horse and its temperature needs. Under rugs have a design that avoids sensitive pressure points and they can be combined with a turnout rug or stable rug depending on what you’re using and what your horse needs.
Using liners eliminates the need to buy multiple rugs with different warmth levels. You simply need one normal rug – turnout or stable – and however many under rugs you need for the different thicknesses and temperatures. You can combine your rugs and liners however you want to get the warmth for your horse just right!
Epplejeck has liners ranging from 100 gram, 150 gram, 200 gram, to 300 grams from different brands such as Bucas, Horseware, Epplejeck and Barato.

Under rugs can be also be used on their own, but this should only ever be done indoors, just like with a stable rug. Liners are not waterproof, so using them outdoors without a turnout rug is not suitable. If you want to give your horse some extra warmth when going out in the paddock over the day, make sure to always add a turnout rug over the top.

Which liners go with which turnout blanket?

Horseware liners are suitable for Rambo, Rhino and Amigo Bravo rugs. Check if your rug has attachment rings or Velcro straps for a liner – this will typically also be stated in the product description on our website. If you use a rug and liner of the same brand, the chances of the rug sliding around and fitting badly are reduced. The under rugs from Epplejeck are universal, as they have no attachments for a good positioning of the two rugs. It is important that you choose the correct size, so that the chance of sliding is minimal. Because the Epplejeck under rugs are universal, you can place them under any blanket.
