As much as we all love spring and summer, when the fields get green, horses get to run around outside, the sun is shining and we can all go out on hacks again.. we also hate it. Because those stupid, annoying insects have to ruin it all, or so it feels like.
But thankfully, they don't actually have to ruin it. Sure, summer time would be a lot more pleasant if flies, mosquitos and all other little winged pests wouldn't exist - but at least we do have some pretty good solutions at how to keep those annoyances at bay.
Fly sprays
To non-horse people, the idea of spraying your pet with some bad-smelling spray must be ridiculous. But thankfully, to us equestrians it's normal. Fly sprays help mask the natural smell of the horse (including sweat) that flies and other insects love so much. Unfortunately, that however means that we have to make our horse super stinky. But oh well, as long as it helps keep the flies away and the horses calm. There's an abundance of different types of smells out there, and not all of them might work perfectly for your horse. The perfect smell is out there though - it might just be stinking really badly.
