Measuring the bit size
To find out the correct bit size, measure the width between the two rings as shown below.

The rings of the bit must be tight against the cheeks of your horse. A bit which is too narrow will irritate the corners of the mouth and a bit which is too large will start shifting. In this case, the bit will lose some effectiveness. The thickness of a bit is measured at approximately one centimetre from the rings. The thicker the bit, the softer its effect.

These are the average sizes:

Type of horse
Bit size
Shetland
10.5 cm
Ponies up to 1.48cm
11.5 cm
Small horse
12.5 cm
Normal horse
13.5 cm
Larger horse
14.5 cm

When does a bit fit?

  • When a bit fits tight against the cheeks of the horse
  • When a bit is too big, it will start shifting in the mouth of the horse
  • When a bit is too small, the corners of the mouth of the horse will get irritated

Trust

Trust

Trust has a great passion for developing the perfect bit for your horse. They have a very own and innovative view on what the horse and rider need. With over 10 years of experience, they develop and optimise various products for the equestrian sport. In addition, they have worked for years with (top) competition riders in all disciplines. This keeps them informed of all developments in the market and allows them to use the feedback from these riders to identify problems early on when using a bit. The Trust team is looking for products to perfect the sporting performance. The production of these bits takes place in the Netherlands, and the bits are manufactured by hand whereby material, shape and weight are very important. Because the bits are manufactured by hand, the quality control is very good.

Types of Trust bits
The range consists of a large number of horse bits. Trust produces hundreds of different types of bits, so with Trust you are guaranteed to find the perfect one for your horse! These bits are divided into the different materials they are made of. These three categories are: Sweet Iron, Inno Sense and leather bits.

Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The mouthpiece has a striking blue colour and will rust when it comes into contact with humidity. This gives a sweet taste and naturally stimulates the production of saliva. The increase of saliva will encourage a better acceptance of the bit. Because of the rusting, the blue colour changes to brown/silver, which is the desired effect.

Inno Sense
The Inno Sense bits by Trust have a flexible mouthpiece and can be used for all horses. However, due to the soft and flexible mouthpiece, they are very suitable for young horses and horses with sensitive mouths. The material that Trust uses for these bits is plastic and FDA approved. This means that the material is non-toxic and contains no plasticisers. In addition, the Inno Sense bits are very solid due to the use of a flexible core of stainless steel. Riding with a flexible mouthpiece makes it easier for the horse to follow the hand and accept the bit better and faster.

Leather bits
In addition to Sweet Iron and Inno Sense, Trust also offers leather bits. A leather bit is soft, which makes it extremely suitable for horses with sensitive mouths, especially when your horse has sensitive layers or an injury in his mouth. Trust's leather bits are made from reinforced nylon and naturally tanned leather without chemicals. The leather is stitched around the core by hand. The production of saliva makes a leather bit soft and pleasant for the horse. Horses with a sensitive mouth will enjoy the flexible material in combination with the taste of leather.
