Silvia Morant - Spain
Silvia with Galón IX
Silvia Morant was born and raised in Barcelona, but now lives in Madrid together with her horses. Her passion for horses started when she was very young. Her parents took her for a pony ride when she was 3 years old. This didn’t end the way they wanted, because the pony got nervous and Silvia fell. This event prompted Silvia to ask her parents to sign her up for horse riding lessons. On her 5th birthday, her parents surprised her and allowed her to start riding lessons, as she got picked up by a pony to go to the horse riding school.
A couple of years later, they decided to go a step further and bought their first horse: a chestnut Lusitano, with beautiful long mane. As both Silvia and her horse were very young, it didn’t work out so well, because he was too strong for her. After finding a good home for the Lusitano, they found Galón IX. They bought him when he was 4 years old, and he’s still with them at the age of 16.
As the years went by, Silvia’s riding techniques improved thank to several trainers. Because she wanted to keep learning and developing, they bought a school master: Donovan, an Oldenburger horse. Thanks to Donovan, they were able to start with Grand Prix exercises. Silvia will never forget this experience. Because Silvia was now able to compete in the junior category, they were looking for a horse with even more quality and found Sir Marq, which is an Oldenburger horse as well. She’s currently competing in the Young Riders category with Sir Marq. In 2020, they got a 6th place in the Spanish Junior Championship in the Junior category, and a 10th place in the Spanish Junior Championship in the Young Riders category together.
Silvia is very grateful for all the developments they have been able to make, and thankful to all the people involved and of course her horses that are great partners in the arena. As they still have a long way to go, Silvia believes it’s important to be surrounded by the best, so that from each of them she can take the best and absorb all their knowledge to the maximum. She has been working herself for riders, doing different chores such as cleaning, preparing horses, taking them to the paddock or meadow, alternating it with riding them and learning from the advice that her trainers gave her with each of the horses. In the end, every horse is different as they say, so it is very important to ride all kinds of horses.
Silvia is a person who likes to learn and see from many different people as well. “I think it is not good to stick with the same person all the time. There are so many riders from whom you can learn so many things. I think it is not worth losing the opportunities to acquire more and more knowledge... I am motivated to become like the references that I have one day. For that, you have to move a lot, because not everyone will be in your area. It is a difficult decision to move from home, but surely worth all the efforts!” she explains.
Silvia’s horses bring her so much joy to work with, because they have such unique personalities. For example, Galón IX is like a grumpy old man: you have to convince him to work, but don’t make it too extreme and always reward him for the slightest gesture he gives you, even if it’s just a trot. Sir Marq is a very explosive horse with a big heart. He’s always ready to work. He doesn’t like quick gestures and can react in very funny ways – Sir Marq always makes her laugh. Silvia has a great connection with both of them, they are a part of her life and she knows exactly how they will react in every moment.
