Guestblog VITALstyle: fight pollen allergies from inside out

Lots of people and horses have problems with it: pollen and hay fever. From early spring, the first trees start to shed their pollen, followed later by grasses and shrubs. We know that this can cause a lot of irritation, coughing and itching, but what exactly is pollen allergy actually?

What does pollen do?

The pollen season runs all throughout spring and summer, from March until September. The powdery pollen that comes from trees, grass and shrubs, gets into the eyes and nose of your body through the mucous membranes. Because of these pollen particles, the body reacts oversensitive, resulting in head shaking, an itchy or runny nose, shortness of breath, or coughing. Every type of tree, shrubbery or gras blossoms at a different time, and your horse might not be reacting to some pollen at all, but very sensitively to others. Pollen allergy is not only super annoying for horses, but can also become a problem with riding. Make sure to keep a close eye on the symptoms your horse is showing to find out which sort of pollen causes the allergies!

How does pollen allergy in horses come to be?

Pollen best relocate through the air, when the weather is dry and calm. In the pollen season, they fly through the air and come in contact with the horse’s body through the mucous of the eyes and nose. For a horse with hay fever, the body sees the pollen as a dangerous and foreign particle. The immune system starts to make antibodies to fight the little powdery intruders. In this process, histamine is set free, which causes the symptoms characteristic and recognisable for allergies.

How can you help a horse allergic to pollen?

The cause of hay fever can unfortunately not be removed in any way, but you can support your horse well and lessen the symptoms with a product like LungVitality. It’s also advisable to get a fly mask with a nose part or attach a nose net to the halter and bridle, to protect the nose and nostril from flying pollen particles.

LungVitality: unique 3-in-1 effect

LungVitality from VITALstyle offers perfect support from inside out for hay fever. It contains – among other ingredients – fenugreek and stinging nettle to provide support with pollen allergies. LungVitality has a unique 3 in 1 effect: it supports the body’s resistance (via the intestines), ensures the maintenance of clear airways and relaxes the respiratory tract in case of itchiness in the throat. A horse with good immune system and resistance is also less sensitive to surrounding environmental factors, such as pollen or dust, lowering the chance for head shaking or coughing – making the pollen season easier for your horse!

Powerful herbs

LungVitality contains the following high quality herbs, which have a very powerful effect and influence.

Aniseed

For maintain clean airways, ensuring that the horse can breathe freely.

Fenugreek

The seeds of fenugreek put a protective layer of slime over the mucous membranes of the respiratory and digestive organs, among others.

Stinging nettle

Stimulates the resistance of the lungs and supports the kidney function.

Liquorice root

Strengthens the mucus of the airways and relaxes the airways in case of itchiness in the throat.

“No more hay fever thanks to LungVitality”

Watoeshi, the Grand Prix horse of Carlijn Huberts has hay fever. “He’s always very restless in the pollen season, snorts a lot, and has an itchy throat, both in the stable as well as in the arena. Without a nose net, I can’t ride in the summer at all. I’ve been using LungVitality for a longer time already and am incredibly content with it. It’s a fantastic product for nose and respiratory tract! I’m starting with feeding it right before the pollen season is about to start to prevent the hay fever from hitting in full swing. With LungVitality, Watoeshi is calmer, has a less itchy nose, his snorting and head shaking is less, and he’s better to ride. LungVitality smells really nice and as it’s in pellet form, it’s not dusty like some powders, which you of course don’t want for horses with sensitive respiratory systems. My horse thinks it’s delicious and I’m happy with the product!”
