NAF M Fit is one of the best products on the market from NAF. The well-known Vitamin E in combination with selenium and L-lysine has undergone an upgrade and is now also available in a liquid form. The advantage of the liquid form is that it is very quickly absorbed into the body and can’t get blown out of the through, as powder would.
Vitamin E can be found in grass, seaweed and roughage. During the winter months, horses can easily develop a vitamin E deficiency. This is because the intake of grass is limited and the vitamin E content in roughage decreases very rapidly. But what exactly is vitamin E?
Vitamin E is one of the most important vitamins that a horse cannot synthesise itself, which is why it has to be provided in the diet. It is a nutrient that helps to protect (muscle) cells from free radicals, which can cause damage to cells and tissues. Free radicals are waste products such as lactic acid that are released when your horse trains. Besides these functions, it is also important for muscle function, fertility and supports the nervous and immune systems of horses.
As you can read, supplementing your horse's diet with Vitamin E can have many positive effects, but how do you know if your horse is deficient in Vitamin E? The way to determine this with certainty is through a blood test by the veterinarian. It is also a good idea to have your roughage analysed regularly to make sure you are aware of the actual nutrient levels in your roughage.
An adult horse needs 1 to 2 mg vitamin E per kg body weight, depending on training intensity, whether or not it is pregnant or lactating. For an adult horse of 600 kg that is trained fairly intensively, this amounts to a requirement of 1080 mg vitamin E. It is also important to look at how much fat is in your horse's food. Is there a high fat content in the food? Then the need for vitamin E in your horse will also be higher.
Symptoms that a horse with a Vitamin E deficiency may show are a reduction in muscle tone (muscular dystrophy), stiffness (the day) after training and low resistance. But your horse does not have to have these symptoms. You can also feed Vitamin E as a prevention and support for your horse. Especially sport horses, pregnant mares (during the last 3 months of gestation) and young horses have an increased need for Vitamin E.
Supplements with Vitamin E actually always go hand in hand with selenium; vitamin E does not work well without selenium and vice versa.
Besides vitamin E, selenium and l-lysine, powerful herbal tinctures have been added to NAF M Fit. By using herbs such as turmeric, ginger, liquorice root and ginkgo biloba, the antioxidant effect of vitamin E is enhanced.
M Fit is an excellent product for good muscle health, a supple horse and a smooth recovery period. The great thing about M Fit is that it does not add any extra energy, so your horse will not get 'hot' from it.
