Evelyn's leather care treatment

My name is Evelyn and I work in the logistics department of Epplejeck. I am a real recreational rider. Dressage, jumping, cross country and horse boarding. For my Haflinger Ace it's all a piece of cake, but most of are having fun with trail rides. Because of this, my tack has a lot to put up with. After taking trail rides, everything is covered in sand and mud, from my boots to my saddle. In this blog, I will show you how and with which products I clean my tack and riding boots.

Step 1

First of all, everything needs to be taken apart. The girth, girth straps and stirrups are removed from the saddle and my bridle is completely taken apart. I remove the biggest dirt and dust from the tack with a soft cloth or brush. Luckily this time it wasn't so bad for me because it's starting to get a bit drier in the woods. I put the bit and stirrups in soapy water and clean them again with a brush.

Step 2

When most of the dirt is brushed off, I clean the leather. I am a huge fan of Effax products! So I grab my Effax glycerin leather soapand with a damp cloth, I foam the leather soap and remove all the dried-up sweat, skin grease and dirt from my saddle and bridle. Then I remove the leather soap with a clean, dry cloth. I don't clean the Petrie riding boots with Effax, but with the special Petrie riding boot cleaner.

Step 3

Now the leather has gotten clean and dry I can continue with the care of the leather. Recently I got the Effax leather Serum+. This provides good care, makes the leather water repellent and it gives the leather good, bright look! And on top of that, it smells delicious! I am a total fan. You spray this directly onto the leather and then rub it with a soft cloth. I treat certain pieces of the leather, as the parts underneath the stirrup straps again. After that, I take care of the riding boots the same way but with the Petrie boot cream.

Step 4

After the leather serum has had time to soak in, I grab a clean dry cloth and rub in everything firmly. With this treatment, I remove any excess oil and give my saddle and bridle a super nice shine. An old but familiar trick for polishing riding boots: use an old pair of pantyhose! This will make your leather riding boots shine super bright. Last but not least I also take care of the zipper of my riding boots. For most riding boots the zipper is the weak spot. Because of this take extra good care of the zipper by treating them with the Petrie Zipp spray. This keeps the zipper smooth and clean.

The leather of my tack has been restored to its former glory. The brown colours are beautiful again and the leather feels very soft!
