Riding tights or riding breeches?

Riding tights are a newer phenomenon in the equine industry that stray away from the traditional breeches a little bit. Riding tights, also often called riding leggings, offer maximum comfort with elastic waistbands, meaning that you will no longer have annoying buttons or zippers poking your belly or sticking out. Riding tights are soft and elastic and often made from technical fabrics which are moisture wicking. Most riding tights have a high waist for an extra comfortable fit. They're essentially just like your normal sport leggings, but then for horse riding. That's why they will typically also have a very casual look and sporty designs.
If you're not a fan of leggings in general or want the added practicality of having buttons and zippers, we'd recommend breeches instad. But other than the closure and waistband difference, most riding tights and breeches are very similar these days and often made of the same technical materials. It's all just a matter of preference, really!

Which seat to choose with riding breeches?

Riding breeches and riding tights are, as the name says, specifically designed for horse riding. Breeches have a tight fit and are made from comfortable fabric. Seams are designed in a way so they don't cause irritation during riding. A supple fabric is vital during horse riding. Riding breeches can have a (fake) leather, silicone or fabric seat. You can choose a full seat, meaning that the entire inner legs and the seat is covered in leather or silicone, or you can opt for only having knee grip or knee patches instead. Lately, there has also been more breeches with leg grip popping up. With leg grip, the silicione runs across the entire inner leg, higher than knee grip would, but does not cover the seat.

Riding breeches with a fabric seat

Fabric seat riding breeches use the same fabric throughout the entire breeches. There is no added patches on the seat or knees for increased grip. It offers maximum freedom of movement, but requires a stable position of the rider as you tend to slip and slide more in the saddle. If you wish to have more grip in the saddle, try pantswith a leather or silicone seat.

Riding breeches with a leather seat

Leather seat riding breeches allow for more grip in the saddle. With a leather seat, you'll slide less in the saddle, which makes it easier to sit trot for example. There are riding breecehs with fake leather seats and riding breeches with real leather seats. A leather seat supports a stable position in the saddle. If you wish to keep freedom of movement in the saddle, but want more grip around the knees you can choose riding breeches with knee patches instead.

Riding breeches with a silicone seat

Silicone is rubbery and used in a variety of products, such as smart phone cases and kitchen accessories. Breeches with a silicone seat offer extra grip in the saddle, as silicone is slip-resistant. Due to its flexibility, silicone moves with the stretch in your breeches but will let stick you to the saddle like glue. If you just want some extra grip around the knees you can buy riding breeches with silicone knee grip.
